Shape Your Skill Profile

Add a Skill to Your Profile

You can add a skill to your Skill Profile anytime you want to by following these steps:

  1. Click on the Skills tab of your Ibbaka Talent Profile.

  2. Click the large, orange plus button at the far right of the Skill Profile Page.

  3. In the pop-up window that opens, type the name of the skill you want to add, then select it from the list of predefined search results.

If the skill does not appear to already be in the system, just press ENTER after you type it, and it will be added.

  4. Self-assess your level of proficiency in the skill. To familiarize yourself with the definition of each point in the assessment scale, click the link at the bottom of this window that says, ‘Learn about our assessment scale’

  5. If you are a member of any teams in your organization, these teams will be displayed in the next step of claiming the skill, so that you can also claim the skill inside any team where you are using the skill, and wish to receive peer assessments for that skill.

Note that when you ‘claim a skill’ from your Skill Profile and acknowledge that you are using in teams where you are a team member, it’s the same as claiming that skill from any Team page. All members of that team will be invited to assess your proficiency in that skill, which they can accept or decline. Members of a team can also choose ‘I don’t know' if they are unsure of your proficiency, or if they haven’t worked with you closely enough to provide an assessment. Visit our Knowledge Centre article to learn more on Claiming, Suggesting and Assessing Skill in a Team.

  6. You can either click ‘Go Back’ to claim more skills, or you can click ‘I’m Done’ to complete the process.

Accept Skills

  1. Click on the "notification" icon to review all the pending actions.

Skills can be suggested by the Ibbaka Talent AI or by your team members (you can see who suggested the skill and on which team).

  2. You can accept (YES) or dismiss (NO) a suggested skill.

  3. Self-assess your level of proficiency in the skill. To familiarize yourself with the definition of each skill in the assessment scale, click the link at the bottom of this window that says, ‘Learn about our assessment scale’

  4. You can either click ‘Go Back’ to claim more skills that have been suggested to you, or you can click ‘I’m Done’ to complete the process.

Self-Assess Your Skills

You don’t need to self-assess skills at the time you are adding them or accepting skill suggestions. You also self-assess your skills later from your profile.

  1. Go to your Skill Profile Page and look for any skills that have an orange ‘Confirm’ icon next to them. These skills will also say ‘Not Assessed’ to the right of this icon.

  2. Click the orange ‘Confirm’ icon.

  3. Self-assess your level of proficiency in the skill.

  4. If you are a member of any teams, you will be prompted to indicate in which teams you have used the skill you’ve just assessed, should you wish to claim the skill on that team. When you do so, individuals on that team will be invited to assess your skill.

Adding and Retaining Context (Evidence) for Skills - Where have you used them?

If you are trying to build your SkillRank for a particular skill, or if you want people to see the various contexts in which you’ve used a skill, you can add this additional context right from the Skill Drawer for any given skill in your profile.

This functionality requires that you are a member of the teams on Ibbaka Talent in which you are using or have used the skill.

  1. Find the skill in your Skill Profile for which you want to add context/evidence.

  2. Click the arrow at the far right of the drawer to open it, then click the three-dots below.

  3. Choose ‘Add Evidence’.

  4. Click ‘YES’ next to the teams where you are using this skill.

You will see a checkmark appear next to each Team where you indicated you are using or have used this skill.

Note that when you ‘claim a skill’ from your Skill Profile, it’s the same as claiming that skill from the team page. All members of that team will be invited to assess your proficiency in that skill, which they can accept or decline. Member of a team can also choose ‘I don’t know' if they are unsure of your proficiency, or if they haven’t worked with you enough to provide an assessment. Visit our Knowledge Centre article to learn more on Claiming, Suggesting and Assessing Skill in a Team.

  5. Click anywhere off the modal window when you are finished.

Note that when others suggest skills to you in the context of a team, this also becomes evidence that you have demonstrated this skill. The same is true when you claim skills in a team. To learn more about this, check out our Knowledge Centre article, Suggest, Claim and Assess Skills in a Team.

Position Your Skills

Ibbaka Talent gives you the ability to indicate when skills are core to what you are doing in your current role(s) or job, as well as which skills you are developing (target skills). Once you start to position skills in your profile, any skill that does not fall into ‘Core' or ‘Target’ falls under the heading ‘Other’. Think of these groups in this way:

Core Skills - These are the skills that you need to do your everyday job. These may be skills that have been identified as ‘Must Have’ as part of your job as defined in a competency model, or they can be skills that you consider central to the value you are adding to your organization.

Target Skills - These are skills that you are actively developing, but you don’t have to be a beginner in a skill for you to position it as a Target Skill. You may be working on honing a skill where you already feel reasonably solid, or you may be working on elevating yourself from an expert to someone who shapes the way in which people think about your discipline.

To position skills in your profile:

  1. Click on the Skills tab in your Ibbaka Talent Profile, and scroll down to view your list of skills.

  2. Click the arrow on the right-hand side of the drawer for any skill you want to position as core or target.

  3. Click on either the star or the target icon for that skill to position it as Core or Target. Unclick the icon to position the skill into the general list of ‘Other' skills.

You can also hide or delete skills from the three-dots menu for any skill.
