FAQ
GENERAL QUESTIONS
A change I’ve made doesn’t seem to be reflected in the application. Why?
Occasionally browser caching of pages in the application can prevent changes you’ve made from being reflected immediately in on the platform. To remedy this, simply reload the page.
What is the ‘Competencies’ option in the main menu on my profile?
When you click your profile avatar in the upper right-hand corner of your screen, you will see an option called ‘Competencies’. This is where organizations can model competencies and job architectures for the purposes of better understanding of present and future skill needs.
SKILL PROFILES and SKILL MAPS
The number of skills in the graph at the top of my Skill Profile does not match the number of skills I’ve claimed. Why?
This is a known issue in the system, and we thank you in advance for your patience while we work to resolve this. The number at the top of your skills list is the one to pay attention to.
What is the purpose of the Word Cloud?
The word cloud on your skill profile is intended to help you quickly get a look at some of the skills for your skill profile when you are filtering by category (check or uncheck the boxes for categories on the right-hand side), or by SkillRank (click the coloured bars in your Skill Map. You can also check or uncheck different levels of expertise). When you do this, you can see some of the top skills in your profile reflected in the Word Cloud. If you just click skills in the Word Cloud, it will filter for the category and level of expertise of skill. Click it again, and it returns to its default.
Word Clouds on the Team and Company pages are not currently ‘clickable’. Please filter using the Skill Map, or the check boxes on Skill Categories.
I notice that the Skill Map on our Company page does not reflect the wide range of self-ratings myself and others have created for our skills. Why is this?
The Skill Map on the company page is based primarily on SkillRank. If you yet begun to promote activities on the platform that promote peer assessment (claiming skills in teams or jobs with observers who can assess those skills), the Skill Map on your Company will appear to reflect lower skill assessments.
ABOUT SKILLRANK
What is SkillRank and how does it work?
SkillRank is a system-generated score based on the feedback from others about your proficiency in a given skill. The system uses two factors when determining SkillRank: 1) The SkillRank earned by the person rating you, for the particular skill they are rating. 2) the confidence level the system has in the SkillRank of those individuals, for that particular skill.
For example, if someone rates your proficiency in a given skill, and they do not have that skill, they do not have a high SkillRank in that particular skill, or the system does not have a high confidence in their level of that skill, the system assigns relatively less weight to the feedback being given by that person. Conversely, if the person rating you has a high SkillRank for that particular skill, and the system has a high confidence level in that person’s SkillRank as determined by other people rating that person, that person’s rating would be given relatively more weight.
We refer to the weight given to anyone rating that comprises your SkillRank as a confidence level. Ibbaka Talent has been programmed to recognize when it can have confidence in the feedback being offered on your proficiency level.
How can I control who gives me feedback on my skills?
It’s important to remember that you are in control of who can give you feedback on your skills. When you claim skills in the context of a team you have joined on the platform, every person on that team receives a notification to provide feedback on the skills for which you have claimed on that team. (Claiming skills on a project is just another way of saying, ‘I demonstrated this skill on this project’).
Ibbaka Talent gives you even more control over who assesses you in Roles that you have defined in your profile. Once you’ve defined a Role in your profile, or connected one from a competency model, you can select observers who will only have permission to assess the skills you’ve claimed in the context of that role.
Why will SkillRank show up for some skills, and for others, I can only see my self-assessment?
SkillRank for any given skill will not display on your profile until at least 3 or more people have assessed your skill level for that particular skill. This ensures that by the time your SkillRank is visible, the system has a higher confidence level in the SkillRank.
My SkillRank has a circle around it. What does that mean?
If you see a circle around your SkillRank icon, it’s there to let you know there is a difference between your self-assessment and the SkillRank. When the circle is green, it means SkillRank is higher than your self-assessment. If the circle is red, it means your SkillRank is lower than your self-assessment.
Can I see who has contributed to my SkillRank for a given skill?
No, the information about who has assessed you is not visible to the person being assessed. Note that SkillRank only becomes visible once 3 or more people have offered their assessment of your proficiency in that skill.
When I edit my proficiency for a given skill, the proficiency icon doesn’t retain the change. Why?
This is because the system is placing more confidence in your SkillRank as opposed to your self-assessment, and therefore the icon is reflecting the SkillRank. To change your self-assessment, simply click anywhere on the icon for that skill, on the labels for SkillRank or ‘Self-assessed’. The window for self-assessing your proficiency will pop-up.
How should I interpret the SkillRank that shows up for various skills on a Team Page?
The SkillRank displayed on a Team Page shows you the maximum level of proficiency that exists on the team for that skill. The system decides whether to use the self-rating, or the SkillRank, based on whichever number the system considers more reliable.
Can I hide my SkillRank?
At this time, SkillRank cannot be hidden. However, consistent with Ibbaka’s commitment to give you control over the data you create on our system, we do give you the ability to hide your self-assessment. You may choose to do this if you felt that there were a number of differences between your SkillRank and your Self-Assessment, and only wanted people to see the SkillRank. You can also hide a skill on your profile if you want to. When you do this, the system will no longer ‘find you’ when someone searches for that particular skill, and only you will be able to see that skill on your profile.
